Lake Mills wins first outdoor meet of the season

The Lake Mills boys’ track team traveled to Central Springs Thursday night for its first outdoor meet of the season.

The Bulldogs started the season on a high note, winning the meet with 137 points, finishing in first place in seven events and setting three meet records along the way.

Three individuals took home first-place finishes. Junior Logan Prescott took first-place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.72. Senior Tommy Kaktis not only placed first in the 400-meter hurdles, but also set a new meet record by more than three seconds with a time of 1:00.12.

Junior Carson Rygh also set a meet record in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 10:47.16, while also winning the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:58.19.

The 4×100-meter relay team of Prescott, senior Cael Boehmer, junior Garrett Hanna and sophomore DaShawn Linnen finished in 46.5 and in first place. The shuttle hurdle team of Boehmer, Kaktis, and juniors Bennett Eaton and Tyler Helgeson finished first with a time of 1:04.86 and the 4×400-meter relay team of Eaton, Kaktis, and juniors Chett Helming and Mason Fritz were the final first-place team with a time of 3:41.74, also setting a meet record.

Second-place finishers included Fritz in the 800-meter run (2:08.92); the 800-meter medley team of Prescott, Hanna, Helming and Fritz (2:08.92); and the 4×200-meter relay team of Prescott, Hanna, Helming and Eaton (1:38.47).

Prescott finished the meet with two first-place finishes and two second-place finishes. Kaktis finished with three firsts; Boehmer and Rygh each had two.

The Bulldogs beat out the Panthers of Central Springs by 10 points to take home their first meet win of the year. They will be back on the track again Monday when they head to West Hancock High School in Britt, Iowa, for the Sanger Relays.
