The fourth-graders at Sibley Elementary School have been learning about the engineering and design process during their science class time. The students were given the challenge to design a ping pong ball carrier that could slide down an 8-foot zipline in four seconds without dropping the ping pong ball. They were given small paper cups, plastic straws, washers and cardboard to make the carrier. They worked in small groups to design and redesign as necessary to complete the project. At the end of the project, each group explained their design, shared challenges and redesigns, and showed the class how their carriers worked. - Provided
