3 shelters open for people without power

Three shelters have been opened for people without power in Freeborn County.

According to a news release sent out by the county, the shelters are at the following locations and will be open until further notice:

  • Clarks Grove Fire Hall, 1010 Independence Ave., N., Clarks Grove
  • Alden Community Center, 502 W. St., Alden
  • Albert Lea Armory, 410 Prospect Ave., Albert Lea

Freeborn-Mower Cooperative Services stated as of 4 p.m. Thursday, there were approximately 6,700 power outages and 400 poles on the ground throughout the cooperative’s service area.

It said it did not expect full restoration of power until Monday evening for some areas of the service territory, and additional crews and equipment have been called in to help with the restoration process.

The Freeborn-Mower Cooperative Services office will be taking calls until 6 p.m., and after that time, an after-hours service center will field calls. Local representatives will begin taking calls again at 7 a.m. Friday.
