The Albert Lea boys’ golf team traveled to Somerby Golf Course in Byron for a 16-team invitational Monday night.

Despite many area sports postponing due to the weather, the Tigers stayed on the course and finished the day with a team score of 360. As of press time, Albert Lea’s place amongst the 16 teams had not been released.

Sophomore Danny Chalmers led the way with a round of 84, scoring 43 on the front nine and 41 on the back. Freshman Tucker McKinney was not far behind, entering the clubhouse with an 87, 43 on the front and 44 on the back. Rounding out the scoring for the Tigers was eighth grader Drew Teeter and sophomore Caden Severtson, who finished with scores of 94 and 95, respectively.

Also golfing for Albert Lea, but not scoring were juniors Logan Howe (104) and Marty Syverson (100).

“Danny looks real comfortable with his swing and it showed with his play today in tough conditions,” said head coach Max Jeffrey. “I know he and the boys didn’t putt as well as they would’ve liked but that will improve for everyone. Proud of Tucker today. He had a rough outing in our first match, but he will only continue to get better and today he improved.”

The Tigers will be back on the course Thursday when they host the Huskies of Owatonna at Wedgewood Cove Golf Course.
