The Office of First District U.S. Rep. Jim Hagedorn, R-Minnesota, will accept submissions for the 2019 Congressional Art Competition from high school students in Minnesota’s First Congressional District. The winning submission will hang in the U.S. Capitol Complex for a year and the winner will earn a trip to Washington, D.C., for an awards ceremony.

Students across the country submit entries to their representative’s office, and a panel of district artists selects the winning entry.

More than 650,000 high school students have participated in the Congressional Art Competition since it began in 1982.

“It is always exciting to see the stellar submissions from the students each demonstrating a unique perspective and style for Members of Congress, staff and visitors to admire on a daily basis,” Hagedorn said. “Minnesota’s First District is home to countless talented students, and I encourage all students to consider participating.”

Students must attend school or reside in Minnesota’s First Congressional District to participate. The deadline for submissions to Hagedorn’s Mankato or Rochester offices is at 5 p.m. Apr. 19.
