Bicyclist injured after being struck by vehicle

An Albert Lea bicyclist received minor injuries Wednesday morning after he was reportedly struck by a vehicle on Margaretha Avenue.

According to police, Evolett Lopez Gonzalez, 23, of Austin was traveling southbound on Margaretha Avenue in a Durango at 4:59 a.m. when the passenger side mirror of her vehicle struck Jesse Logan Ryun, 45, of Albert Lea, who was traveling southbound on Margaretha Ave. in the right lane with traffic. The crash took place near the intersection with Larimore Circle, according to police.

Gonzalez did not stop for the crash but later called in stating she witnessed the bicyclist fall in the rearview mirror.

Ryun, who was wearing reflective clothing, received a minor injury and was taken to Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea by ambulance.

Police stated the incident remains under investigation but Gonzalez could be charged with hit-and-run.

 

1 arrested for drunk driving

Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Jeffrey David Anderson, 41, for fourth-degree driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated with .08 blood alcohol content within two hours and failure to signal a turn after a traffic stop at 2:09 a.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Frank Avenue and East Front Street.

 

Attempted break-in reported

An attempted break-in was reported at 1:29 p.m. Tuesday at 75463 160th St. in Albert Lea.

 

2 arrested on warrants

Police arrested Daniel Edward Shaw on two local warrants and fifth-degree possession at 3:17 p.m. Tuesday after an arrest warrant execution.

Police arrested William Jay Stapleton on a local warrant at 10:11 p.m. Tuesday at Walmart, 1550 Blake Ave.
