In a little over a week, dignitaries and media members from all over the state and region will travel to Albert Lea for the Minnesota Governor’s Fishing Opener.

People will start arriving on May 9 and will be here through May 11. Throughout these days, there are events organized for these guests, along with events organized for the community. The highlighted guest, of course, will be Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, who will be participating in his first fishing opener since becoming governor.

The fishing opener is Albert Lea’s chance to be in the spotlight and to showcase all the wonderful things that make the community a great place to live. Whether it’s our lakes, our outdoor opportunities, our schools, our businesses or our greatest asset — our people — there is a lot that Albert Lea should be proud of.

We encourage residents to be advocates of our community when you are out and about those days and to get involved in the events that have been planned for residents.

We also encourage people to do their best to clean up their properties and help Albert Lea’s beauty fully shine through.
