Both the Albert Lea boys’ and girls’ golf teams played in a dual meet against Faribault Monday afternoon. While the girls were on the road at Faribault Golf and Country Club, the boys played at home on Green Lea Golf Course.

Both Tigers teams played well on the overcast and slightly breezy day, the boys winning 337-373 and the girls winning 426-455.

Recording the low round for the boys’ team was junior Danny Chalmers with an 81 (41-40). Fellow junior Marty Syverson was close behind, carding an 83 (39-44) on the round. Also scoring for the Tigers was junior Logan Howe with an 86 (43-43) and freshman Tucker McKinney with an 87 (45-42).

Senior Aus Barker and eighth grader Drew Teeter also played for Albert Lea, finishing with rounds of 93 and 96, respectively.

“I think the word of the day was consistency,” said head boys’ coach Max Jeffrey. “Danny and Marty put together two solid rounds today. I think they each had penalty strokes, but just put those things behind them to post good scores. After struggling a couple of rounds, Logan Howe is beginning to regain his confidence. He stays positive. Tucker is so very close to breaking out. He loves golf and it’s just a matter of time before we see him come in around 80 or better. Aus played well, proud of his play today.”

Junior varsity scorers were sophomore Jacob Blatti (79), freshman Brandon Fjelsta (87), junior Owen Zelenak (90) and senior Dylan Studier (98).

In Faribault, senior Emma Loch took home the top score for the Tigers, finishing with a round of 101 (51-50). Senior Charley Fleek and eighth grader Alyssa Jensen were right behind with scores of 105 (55-50) and 108 (56-52), respectively. Sophomore Grace Nelson rounded out the scoring for the Tigers with a round of 112 (58-54).

Also playing for Albert Lea were junior Makenzie Herr with a 115 (58-57) and eighth grader Whitney Mullenbach with a 121 (60-61).

The boys’ team will be back in action Friday when they travel to Red Wing for a 16-team invite. The girls will play again Tuesday when they host Mankato East.
