Letter: GOP senators, this is for you

Kim Jong-un had his uncle and his five aides stripped naked and thrown into a pit of hungry dogs. He executed his former girlfriend by firing squad. His favored means of executing his perceived enemies are anti-aircraft fire, machine guns and flamethrowers. Their bodies are then fed to dogs. In 2013 he carried out mass executions in several towns for such crimes as owning a Bible or watching South Korean television. Three generations of a family committing such crimes are put into gulags with hundreds of thousands of their fellow citizens where they are worked and starved to death. It was recently announced rations for his people will be further reduced to about 11 ounces of food a day. He killed American student Otto Warmbier.

Senators, this Memorial Day weekend your president who “fell in love” with Kim and who said Kim loved his people and they loved him was laughing on the phone with this monster about how Kim was more intelligent and would make a better American president than your colleague, Joe Biden! Joe Biden, who has served this country faithfully for 50 years. A man, whether you agree with his policies or not, you know to be a good, decent human being! One of the few among you who did not use his office to make himself rich. He is a man whose recently deceased son, Beau, served honorably in the U. S. military — something Trump, the people around him and most of you went to great pains to avoid doing! But about this outrage you remain silent!

Your silence in the face of such slander testifies to your cowardice as well as to your complicity! As Hal Crowther said, there is no honor — there is not a true patriot among you! As conservative columnist Jennifer Rubin said, not a one of you deserves any longer the office you hold! Lindsey Graham, before you sold your soul for the sake of expediency, you said if the Republican Party allowed Trump to become its nominee it would be destroyed as a party and, you said, “it would deserve to be.” Do you believe your friend Sen. John McCain would have remained silent against such an attack on a colleague he knew to be a good, honorable man?

Senators, you dishonor Joe, you dishonor yourselves, and you dishonor our country and everything she formerly stood for! In your slobbering servility to this worst of all presidents you remind me of the Druids in the book “The First King of Shanarra,” who groveled on their knees before the evil Warlock Lord who then destroyed them. You sicken me! It is sad that you do not sicken yourselves!
