To new Albert Lea Lakers head coach Nate DeChaine.
Welcome to former Morningside College baseball player Nate DeChaine, who leads the Albert Lea Lakers this summer.
DeChaine is coaching the team with assistant Griffin Dean.
Coming off of a championship season in 2018, the two men have big shoes to fill.
We wish you the best of luck and are glad to have you and the team in Albert Lea.
To organizers of Eddie Cochran Weekend.
Hats off to all the people who play a part in planning the events of Eddie Cochran Weekend.
The weekend is filled with events in honor of the late Albert Lea music legend, and proceeds benefit the Freeborn County Historical Museum.
Whether it’s all of the entertainment, the classic car show and cruise on Saturday, the cruise-in on Friday, or the rock ’n’ roll service on Sunday, the weekend offers a lot of opportunities for residents and visitors to the community.
We hope residents take advantage of the festivities.
To the Albert Lea Anglers and the Fountain Lake Sportsman’s Club.
Thanks to these two organizations for sponsoring the local Take a Kid Fishing event at Edgewater Park.
Take a Kid Fishing has been a longtime Minnesota tradition that allows Minnesota residents to fish without licenses for one weekend a year if they take children 15 or younger fishing. While Minnesotans 15 and younger don’t need fishing licenses any time of the year, Take a Kid Fishing Weekend is a way for adults and kids to fish together without the step of buying a license.
The local event, slated for Saturday morning, offered children a free fishing rod and a free meal.
We hope this event and others teach children about the value of a wholesome hobby such as fishing and to get outside and enjoy nature.
Thanks to the Anglers and the Sportsman’s Club for providing the rods and meals.
To Albert Lean Ruth Perry.
Congratulations to Ruth Perry, who in March was named 2019 Minnesota Woman Veteran of the Year at the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs Conference for women veterans and just last month was recognized at a Minnesota Timberwolves game for her service to the country.
Perry last year was the grand marshal for Albert Lea’s annual Third of July Parade.
We thank Perry for her service to our nation and to the community. In addition to time with American Legion Post 56, she has also volunteered at organizations such as St. John’s Lutheran Community and Naeve Hospital.
