The Geneva Cancer run returns for its eighth annual installment Saturday. The 100-mile ride is set to begin at 11 a.m. with registration opening up at 9 a.m. Registration fees are $10 per rider.
The parade of motorcycles will leave from the Geneva Bar and Grill at 11 a.m. and will make three stops throughout the area. The first stop will include a catered lunch for a freewill donation. Riders will return to the bar around 4 p.m., but the fun doesn’t stop then. A supper is available, and a live auction and raffle will begin at 5 p.m. with live music by Rush Hour, an Austin band, to follow.
At 7 p.m. raffle winners will be drawn. Tickets are available now and during the event for $5. First prize is $500; second prize is $250, and third prize is $150. Fourth prize is $100.
Camping is available in Geneva City Park for riders who wish to stay. Campers, tents and motorhomes are welcome and campers are encouraged to get there early for set up. No campfires are allowed in the park, and there will be a 24-hour security presence. Anyone wishing to camp may check in anytime after 4 p.m. Thursday.
Breakfast will be provided by ABATE Saturday morning, including eggs, bacon, sausage and pancakes from 9 to 10:30 a.m. for $6 by registration tables for people who stayed overnight Friday.
All money raised from the Cancer Run goes back into the community in the form of support to families with cancer patients that need financial assistance and a donation to the Geneva Cancer Auction.
Dee Randall, president of the Geneva Cancer Run, said the event has had anywhere from 110 to 170 motorcycles participate in past years.
“We make all the efforts to maintain a safe and respectful ride,” Randall said. “All cars and motorcycles are welcome.”
She advised people to make sure they had enough gas to make it 120 miles. Gas is not available in Geneva, so Clarks Grove and Ellendale are the closest locations to get gas.
She said there is also a 14-passenger van available for those who choose not to drive.
