Ruth Chicos

Ruth passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 19, 2019, at New Perspective Senior Living Community in Faribault with family by her side. She was 93.

Kathryn Ruth (Convey) was born Sept. 1, 1925, in Waldorf to Thomas and Rosella (Fox) Convey. She grew up near Waldorf, where she graduated from high school. On Nov. 16, 1948, she was united in marriage to Thomas J. Chicos Jr. in Waldorf. They had seven children together. Ruth helped Tom out on their family farm. Tom bragged that she was the best farmhand you could have. She also helped with their purebred Hampshire swine business, with pigs being sold nationwide.

Beyond farm work, raising and taking care of her children was a full-time job in and of itself!

Ruth and Tom enjoyed going dancing together — they enjoyed it so much that they often held dances on their farm! She liked gardening and did plenty of canning. Ruth attended all of her children’s school activities and 4-H events, supporting them in everything they participated in. As her grandchildren grew, she was always there to cheer them on, too!

Christmas holidays were her favorite, because the entire family gathered and enjoyed time spent together. She was kind, helpful and always put others ahead of herself. She never took life too seriously and always enjoyed herself — but never had time to slack off!

She will be dearly missed by her husband of 70 years, Tom Chicos, of New Richland; children Robert (Barb) Chicos of North Mankato, Connie (Terry) Litchfield of Clearwater Beach, Florida, Patti (Mark) Siegfried of Faribault, Gail (Del) Point of Waterville and Gary (Mary) Chicos of Alden; grandchildren Amanda (Ben) Roiger, Nate Chicos, Melissa (Andrew) Prashad, Christine (Matt) McEwen, Michelle (fiance, Tyler Shermer) Siegfried, Matt Siegfried, Toni Chicos, Sydney Chicos, Zac Chicos and Spencer Chicos; great-grandchildren Harper and Henrik Roiger and Logan McEwen; as well as many extended relatives.

Ruth was preceded in death by both parents; two children, Thomas Mark Chicos and Richard Patrick Chicos, in infancy; one grandson, Patrick Mark Siegfried, in infancy; and siblings Maurice Convey, Helen Greenwood and Blanche Cahill.

Memorials are preferred to the Missionary of St. Jude or All Saints Church stained glass window fund.

Blessed be her memory.
