• Ardie Williamson spun her second no-hitter of the year as Home Lumber defeated Aragon Bar 23-0 in three innings in the Albert Lea ladies softball league
• Grace Lutheran defeated First Lutheran 7-2 in softball action behind the pitching of John Thorson. Bob Sorensen, Kent Dugstad and Ron Matthies all had two hits for Grace.
• John Bangh went four for four to power First Presbyterian to an 11-5 victory over Wilson Certified in an American Division slowpitch softball game. Tom Clouser went three for three for Wilson.
• Gary Arneson had chip-ins on No. 6 and No. 8 in City American League golf play at Green Lea Golf Course.

• The annual Freeborn County fastpitch softball old-timers game was set to be played at Maple Island Park. Joe Carlin was to manage the Albert Lea team with Ken Niebuhr managing the county team.
• The Albert Lea Elks 13-year-old traveling baseball team lost 21-11 to Elmore. Brad Lunde hit a grand slam for Albert Lea with Tony Bennett collecting three hits.
• The Albert Lea U-14 boys’ soccer team saw its record go to 19-0 on the season as it defeated Apple Valley 7-1 at Hammer Field. The team was coached by Rich Hobson and Craig McCormick.

• Michael Greibrok tossed the second complete game victory in a row for the Albert Lea Colonels as they defeated Faribault 8-2 at Hayek Field.
• The Glenville-Emmons Legion baseball team dropped both games of a five-inning doubleheader with Blooming Prairie. Pitcher Tyler Woodside took the loss 2-1 in game one with Jon Mittag losing game two 4-3.
• Cole Sorenson threw his third shutout of the season in throwing a two-hitter as the Albert Lea VFW baseball team defeated Rochester 2-0

• Former Tribune sports editor Jeff Budlong is living in Ames, Iowa, where he writes for the publication Inside Iowa State, which is published for the faculty and staff of Iowa Sate University.
