Two Cargill employees received minor injuries Tuesday evening when they reportedly attempted to extinguish a fire that started at the plant.
The employees were treated and released for their injuries, according to a press release from the Albert Lea Fire Department.
The fire, which was in the center of the plant, was caused by overheated product inside one of the fryer ovens, the release stated. This caused the exhaust to become superheated, extending to the rubber and foam roofing material.
Firefighters were called to the business, at 702 13th St., at 5:37 p.m. The release stated fire crews arrived within four minutes to find employees had followed their evacuation plans and were outside the facility.
Maintenance staff worked with fire crews on their interior to extinguish the fire, along with crews on the roof.
Damage was estimated at $150,000. In addition to damage to product, there was damage to the roof and equipment.
