Funeral services for Betty A. Nelson will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea. The Rev. Clayton Balsley will officiate. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Betty passed away Thursday, July 11, 2019, at Oak Park Place. She was 91.

Betty was born March 25, 1928, in New Richland, the daughter of Olaf and Leona (Heckes) Halvorson. Betty was united in marriage to Howard Nelson on Aug. 17, 1945, in Albert Lea.

Betty enjoyed the outdoors, camping, fishing, taking care of her home and especially mowing her yard.

Betty is survived by her son, Paul (Ginger) Nelson, of Kasson; daughter, Pat Steele of Albert Lea; grandchildren Shelley (Dean) Irish and their children Mitchell and Brook of Chatfield, Rodney (Sheila) Steele and their children Tyler and Madison of Albert Lea, and Jeremy Nelson and daughter, Cassi, of Mantorville; great-great-grandchildren Adrian and Gemma; siblings Shirley Halvorson of California, Linda Graham of Anchorage, Alaska, and Barbara Peterson of Wheat Ridge, Colorado; sister-in-law, Joyce Halvorson, of Albert Lea; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Burton Halvorson; sister, Genelle Stuckey; brother, Jerome Halvorson; sister, Marie Halvorson; and son-in-law, Dennis Steele.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer’s Foundation, Bridge Community Church in Albert Lea or to the donor’s choice.
