Lake Mills, Northwood players named to conference softball team

The Northwood-Kensett and Lake Mills softball teams combined to have six athletes named to the Top of Iowa All-Conference teams.
Northwood-Kensett senior Laura Hopperstad was the sole player from either team to be selected to the first team. Hoppertad finished the season with an impressive .460 batting average with an on-base percentage of .525. She recorded 26 RBIs and scored 28 runs herself, while striking out only eight times.
Lake Mills senior Jessa Gasteiger and Northwood-Kensett sophomore Kayla Senne were each named to the second team all-conference. Gasteiger started all 27 games her senior year and notched 21 hits in her 71 at-bats.
Senne, the ace pitcher for the Vikings, went through the season with an ERA of 3.68 and held opposing batters to an average of .181. She let up 59 walks on the year while striking out 183.
Making the third team was Northwood-Kensett senior Molly Hunchis. With a slugging percentage of .443, Hunchis came in second on the Vikings squad. She also led the team with 16 walks on the season.
Lake Mills freshman Brooke Bergo and Northwood-Kensett senior Allie Carmen were both named to the honorable mention team. Carmen was second on the team with 29 hits, 20 RBIs and a batting average of .358.
Bergo, one of just nine freshmen to make the cut, led the Bulldogs in many stat categories including slugging percentage, .397; runs scored, 17; and stolen bases, 19.
Central Springs senior Hannah Ausenhus was named the Top of Iowa Player of the Year and Central Springs head coach Belinda Nelson was named Coach of the Year.
