Lecture series to continue

The next presentation of the Dorothy Godtland Lecture Series will be “Art of Quilting” by Carolyn Matson. The presentation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at The Albert Lea Art Center, 101 S. Broadway in Albert Lea The event is free and open to the public.
In 1982, Calico Hutch Quilt Shop started in Hayward by Min Westland and LaVonne Williams. They operated the business until 2002, when it was purchased by Carolyn Matson.
The three women all belonged to the same church and still live in the Hayward area, making Calico Hutch a very community-oriented business, according to a press release. The location has changed three times but always remained in Hayward.
In addition to quilting supplies, fabric, patterns, and notions, Calico Hutch is a Bernina sewing machine dealer and services Bernina sewing machines.
Long arm quilting services are also available to quilters when they complete the top and need batting and backing quilted together.
The business also offers many classes, a Block of the Month program, hosts six clubs and plans trips to numerous quilting retreats.
The Albert Lea Art Center will showcase quilts from Calico Hutch and Granny’s Legacy in Albert Lea for its next gallery exhibit, which will be Aug. 4 through Sept. 14.
