Child struck by car in Albert Lea

A 4-year-old boy walking across the street with his mother was struck by a car Tuesday morning on Margaretha Avenue in Albert Lea.

The boy, Duoth Luak, was taken to the hospital by private vehicle for a suspected serious injury, according to Albert Lea police.

Police stated the mother walked with the boy and two other children east across Margaretha on the 1300 block of the street before then returning with the 4-year-old west across the street.

The boy was struck at about 7:40 a.m. by a 2010 Honda sport utility vehicle driven by Bu G. Htoo, 17, that was traveling northbound on Margaretha. Htoo had two other 17-year-old passengers in his vehicle.

Police stated speed was a factor, and one of the passengers stated Htoo was rushing because they were late for school.

Police were notified of the incident at about 8:48 a.m. after the child had been taken to the hospital.

His condition is unknown.

Police stated possible charges are pending.
