HealthReach track closed indefinitely

The walking track at Mayo Clinic Health System’s HealthReach was closed last month indefinitely.
The track was one of a handful of indoor walking facilities available for Albet Lea residents.
Tricia Dahl, operations administrator at Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea and Austin, said the decision to close the track, which was effective July 1, was not an easy decision.
“Among the factors for this decision, many who used the track noticed the unfortunate deteriorating conditions of the building in which the track is located,” Dahl said. “The cost to repair and maintain this part of (the) building far exceeds the organization’s current and anticipated needs for use of the space.”
She noted that the rehabilitation practice, which includes outpatient physical therapy, occupational therapy, cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation, industrial and sports medicine, and speech language pathology, continues to thrive and has no plans to move from the facility on Southeast Broadway Avenue.
Dahl said the track, which was free to use, was used by approximately 30 community members, employees and patients.
She encouraged the residents who miss using the track to take advantage of our places to walk indoors in Albert Lea, including Skyline Plaza, Northbridge Mall, Brookside Education Center and Albert Lea Family Y.
