Fully Rely      on God

The 26th annual Lutheran Night at the Twins was Aug. 5. According to a press release, 57 Twins fans boarded a bus sponsored by the local Fully Rely on God, an outreach ministry of Central Freeborn Lutheran Church to promote fun, food and fellowship.

The coach bus, driven by Don Richter, left Albert Lea at 4 p.m. and headed to Target Field.

As people boarded, they were given an Albert Lea Convention and Visitors Bureau plastic bag filled with coupons from Albert Lea businesses, including Applebee’s, Arby’s, Dairy Queen, The Heritage Restaurant at the Ramada Hotel and Qdoba. They also received a beanie baby in each bag and a greeting card. Deal or No Deal was played on the bus on the way to the stadium for Minnesota Twins related prizes.

Four people from the bus who hadn’t led in the singing of the national anthem before the game had the opportunity to do so. Joel Treptow and his children, Ethan, 16, Isabel, 12, and Samuel, 7, were a part of a 125-member group who were led by a choir director from centerfield.

If those who celebrate their birthday on Lutheran night say it’s OK, their name will be shown on the scoreboard. Eric Petsinger celebrated his 16th birthday that night and was somehow overlooked, but the passengers on the bus sang “Happy Birthday” to him.

Future activities planned by the organization include its soup and pie supper on Sept. 23 at Central Freeborn Lutheran Church and Christmas by the Lake, which is a bus trip to Clear Lake on Dec. 7.
