Letter: Changes need to happen for gun sales

Do you think the right to own an assault weapon should be on the ballot box next time we vote for president? It seems as though those firearms companies have the Republicans in their pockets. It is a known fact that over 90% of the American people wish to have more strict background checks on firearms sales.
Back in 1994 under President Clinton’s presidency, there was a 10-year law passed that banned the sale of assault weapons. Mass shootings dropped about 40% then.
In 2004 under President George W. Bush, the Republicans let this ban run out. Mass shooting then went up over 200%.
There should be a law passed that when a felon uses a firearm and commits a crime with it that whoever furnished that firearm should be somewhat responsible if he didn’t get a background check on him when he furnished that firearm. After all, if I furnish liquor to a minor and that minor goes out and kills a dozen people, I am held somewhat responsible. Same thing. This would apply to firearms dealer and all average Joes also. If they got a background check on that person and nothing showed up, the person selling the firearm would be off the hook. The way it is now, any average Joe that can pass a background check can go and buy an assault weapon and turn around and sell it to a felon and has no responsibility at all. So any felon can go find someone and grease their pocket and get their hands on any weapon they choose.
Did you vote for Trump last time? Well you know by now, he is the biggest con artist this country has ever put out. So for that, you can say shame on Trump. If you vote for him the next time, you can say shame on you. I am still bragging. I didn’t vote for Trump.
