In honor and remembrance of U.S. Rep. Elijah Cummings and in accordance with an order issued by President Donald Trump, Gov. Tim Walz has ordered all United States flags and Minnesota flags to be flown at half-staff at all state and federal buildings in the state of Minnesota beginning immediately until sunset Friday.

Cummings passed away early Thursday morning from long-standing health complications.

“I am deeply saddened by the loss of Representative Elijah Cummings, and I send my sincere sympathies to his family and loved ones during this difficult time,” said Walz.

“He was not only a friend, but a mentor to me throughout my time in Congress. Representative Cummings was one of those people who radiated kindness to everyone around him. He was tirelessly dedicated to serving his community in Baltimore and advocating for civil rights, and his presence will be sorely missed in the halls of the Capitol.”
