Sometimes we do not hear the positive things about what is happening at Albert Lea High School. Every few weeks in the Tribune weekend edition, we highlight an outstanding student at Albert Lea High School. These students are just examples of the many students we have at Albert Lea High School who are doing awesome things in the classroom and outside the classroom.

Our students do many things to help our community — through the different clubs at ALHS, from having blood drives twice a year, to gathering food for food shelves in the community, to sing at our local retirement communities and many other activities. Our students do a lot of amazing things!

We have just completed our first quarter of academics and our fall extracurricular season is just wrapping. We want to thank the Albert Lea community for their ongoing support of our school.

We opened up the new Jim Gustafson Field for our students and finished some updates to our pool this fall. We will continue to see more improvements at Hammer Complex going into the spring. These upgrades allow our students to have excellent opportunities outside of the classroom and allows the community to be involved.

As we go into our second quarter and winter season, we want to invite you to join us for the different athletic and extracurricular activities. Information about athletic and extracurricular activities can be found at big9conference.org/public/genie/4/school/4/.

I want to thank the dedicated staff (teachers, paraprofessionals, custodians, secretaries, coaches, cafeteria staff and support staff) at Albert Lea High School. Without dedicated staff, our students would not be able to have the outstanding opportunities they receive at ALHS.

Mark Grossklaus is the principal of Albert Lea High School.
