Construction on the west bound Interstate 90 Oakland Woods rest area was set to be completed and re-opened Tuesday, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Oakland Woods, which is east of Albert Lea, was closed for expansion of parking and repaving work. The nearby Hayward rest area on eastbound I-90 is still closed for repaving, sidewalk and accessibility work and is expected to re-open in 2020.
Ulland Brothers of Albert Lea is the prime contractor on the projects.
Similar work on two more rest areas on I-35 will begin construction in 2020.
Those rest areas are Heath Creek for northbound I-35 and Straight River for southbound I-35. Overall, the construction contract for the four projects is $8.9 million.
