A.l. Wrestlers compete in Christmas Tourney

A select few Albert Lea wrestlers made their way to Rochester Friday afternoon for day one of the annual Christmas Tournament.
Freshman Avin Wasmoen was the first to compete, wrestling at 106 pounds. Wasmoen dominated his first match, earning a pinfall in the first period. However, he was pinned in his second round matchup.
After a bye in the first round of consolations, Wasmoen won his second-round consolation match with a 10-1 major decision.
Junior Tucker Ericksmoen wrestled at 126 and was beat in his first match of the day, falling by pin in the second period.
Ericksmoen turned it around in his second match, winning in an 8-4 decision.
Sophomore Cameron Davis won in comeback fashion at 132 pounds, winning 7-5 in overtime.
Davis also won his second-round match 14-4, advancing his to Saturday’s quarterfinals.
Freshman Derrick McMillian won via a third-period pinfall in his first match at 138 pounds. However, he lost his second-round match in a second period fall.
Freshman Cole Glazier won with a 19-3 technical fall in the final round at 145 pounds. Glazier also won his second match via a fall in the third period.
Sophomore Henry Eggum made it past the first round with a narrow 10-8 decision at 152 pounds.
Eggum lost his second round match, falling to a pinfall in the first period.
Junior Caleb Talamantes won his first round match at 160 pounds via a fall in the first period. Talamantes won his second match 4-3.
As of press time, Wasmoen, Ericksmoen, McMillian and Eggum were still alive in the consolation side of the bracket. Davis, Glazier and Talamantes punched their ticket to Saturday’s quarterfinals.
