Albert Lea opens season with win over Rochester John Marshall

The Albert Lea wrestling team started its season with a dominant performance on the road against Rochester John Marshall on Friday night.

The Tigers cruised to an easy victory with wins in 11 of the 14 matches, sealing a 60-12 dual win.

Five Tigers notched pinfall victories, including juniors Tucker Eriksmoen (2:22, 126 pounds) and Caleb Talamantes (2:22, 170 pounds); sophomores Cameron Davis (1:28, 138 pounds) and Henry Eggum (1:06, 160 pounds); and freshman Cole Glazier (1:44, 145 pounds).

Freshman Aivin Wasmoen picked up a 15-0 technical fall in the second period of his 113-pound match. Seventh grader Nick Korman won via a 12-4 major decision at 106 pounds and sophomore Carter Miller won a close 4-2 decision at 132 pounds.

Junior Tyler Barney, sophomore Adam Semple and freshman Derrick McMillian each won by forfeit at 182, 195 and 152 pounds, respectively.

Also wrestling for Albert Lea was sophomore Carsen Knutson, who lost via pinfall at 120 pounds, and junior Trevor Ball, who lost via pinfall at 285 pounds. The 220-pound weight class was a double forfeit.

The Tigers start the season 1-0 and will wrestle again Thursday when they travel to Faribault for a triangular against the Falcons and the Cougars of Mankato East.
