To a Northwood woman who allegedly faked having cancer to receive donations.

It was disappointing to hear news this week that Northwood woman Jennifer Mikesell is accused of multiple charges after reportedly claiming to be diagnosed with cancer and then receiving multiple donations of money, food and other supplies, including a bedroom makeover.

Having cancer is nothing to joke around with, and it is sad to think that someone could fraudulently say they are sick to get attention and donations from other people.

To Hormel Foods Corp. paying over $28,000 to help schools and families erase lunch debt.

Hats off to Hormel Foods Corp., which announced Monday it would contribute over $28,000 to help with school lunch debt at several schools in its plant communities.

The company is giving funds to Austin Public Schools; Dubuque Community School District; Knoxville Community School District; three elementary schools in 16 schools in the Tucker, Georgia, area; West St. Paul-Mendota Heights-Eagan Area Schools and three elementary schools in Wichita, Kansas. The funds will be presented in January.

This is a great contribution to these school districts and will help families who were behind get caught up on their child’s lunch payments.

In a majority of the schools, the donations will erase all school lunch debt.

Helping alleviate hunger is the focus of one of Hormel’s philanthropic efforts.

To unseasonably warm weather.

We were spoiled over the last week with
unseasonably warm, dry weather with temperatures in the 30s and even around 40 some days.

Though the same temperatures are expected for much of the next week, precipitation is expected to return with chances of snow, freezing rain or rain every day except for Wednesday and Thursday.

Soon enough we’ll have to brace ourselves as the cooler temperatures return in January and February during what is traditionally Minnesota’s coldest months.

We’re glad we had this dry warmer spell to prepare us for what’s to come.
