A 24-year-old Albert Lea woman pleaded guilty Friday in Freeborn County District Court to one count of disorderly conduct by a caregiver against a vulnerable adult tied to an incident in September when she worked at St. John’s Lutheran Community.
Samantha Weldon, who was a certified nursing assistant at the time, was accused of slapping a resident in the face and calling him vulgar names, according to court records. The incident was recorded by another employee, and Weldon was terminated from the facility once the allegations came to light.
In court Friday, Weldon recognized she did things that would cause alarm or offense to another person but did not admit to any specifics of her actions, Freeborn County Attorney David Walker said.
Freeborn County District Court Judge Ross Leuning ordered Weldon to complete one year of supervised probation and one year of unsupervised probation, as well as 40 hours of Sentence to Service. She also must complete an anger management course.
If she successfully completes these requirements and is law-abiding over the two years, her charge will be reduced from a gross misdemeanor to a misdemeanor.
Weldon’s case was investigated not only by Albert Lea police but also by the Minnesota Department of Health, which posted a report online this week that the allegations against her were substantiated. The report stated no other residents were affected.
