On Saturday, the Bulldogs wrestling team traveled to a tournament in Blue Earth and placed third.
No. 3-ranked (class AA) Fairmont-Martin County West took the title and No. 4-ranked (class A) Blue Earth Area finished eight points ahead of Lake Mills to get second.
“We really like going to this tournament because we see several teams and styles we won’t see the rest of the year,” said Lake Mills head coach Alex Brandenburg. “There are some great wrestlers at this tournament year in and year out and it helps prepare us for the rest of the year.”
As for individuals, two Bulldogs won their weight class. Senior Tyler Helgeson took the title at 132 pounds by defeating No. 9-ranked Boden Simon of Maple River. The other champion was Elijah Wagner, who won the 170-pound weight class and picked up his 100th career victory. Two other Lake Mills wrestlers made the finals but lost to finish second, junior Casey Hanson and freshman Brady Hanson.
