I just read Al Arends’ letter to the editor. It was a good one, but I would like to be so bold as to add to it. When most of us see the amount of $500,000, it boggles the mind, as the majority will never see that amount of money in our lifetime. But I had a father-in-law who always said, “Watch your pennies and the dollars will take care of themselves.”

It is the same here — those 1, 2, and 5-dollar donations truly add up to make that $500,000.

I want to thank each and everyone of you I got to visit with at the openhouse at Herberger’s. We had a sign up that said every dollar counts, and we meant it and still do. So please don’t be overwhelmed by this large number, as your donation, whatever that is, means so much to the community of Albert Lea and together we will make this happen.
