I hope all had a memorable Thanksgiving with family and friends, and I would like to take this time to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas.

I would also like to share with you some points of interest that in many instances are not available or reported in our daily news, both locally and nationally.

President Trump has created more than 6 million jobs. More Americans are now employed than ever in history. Unemployment is at a 50-year low. He has taken action to boost veteran’s employment. Veteran unemployment is at its lowest level in the past 20 years. African-Americans, Hispanic-Americans and people with disabilities, have the lowest unemployment rates ever recorded. Women and youth unemployment rates are at their lowest levels in the past 50-plus years. Over 4 million Americans are off government assistance programs and are now self-sustaining. Wages are up and consumer confidence is at an 18-year high.

The largest tax cut and reforms in history were accomplished by President Trump, and as a local small business owner and employer, I saw firsthand the reduction in federal tax liabilities for myself and co-workers.

Most recently, there has been a reduction of people at our southern border entering our country illegally. This has allowed us to better utilize resources and improve conditions for those legitimately seeking political asylum. This has in part been accomplished because of the help of the Mexican government and military. Mexico has deployed thousands of troops to curb the emergency at the border of which Mexico is paying for.

President Trump has delivered us the VA Mission Act and expanded VA telehealth services, walk-in clinics, and same day urgent primary and mental health care. He has also signed the Forever GI Bill, giving our veterans greater educational opportunities. He has strengthened our military with the modernization of equipment and technology. President Trump stands behind our military and law enforcement, including our border and Homeland Security men and women.

President Trump has succeeding in getting many NATO allies to pay their fair share rather than the United States footing the bill. He has decimated the Islamic State’s deadly caliphate, withdrawn from the disastrous Iranian nuclear deal and delivered on a long-standing promise to move the U.S. Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

We are now the No. 1 energy producer in the world, making us less dependent on oil-producing nations such as Iran, Saudi Arabia and Venezuela. He also withdrew us from the disastrous Paris Agreement on climate change that would have cost us approximately $3 trillion and led to 6.5 million fewer industrial sector jobs over the upcoming years. Again, the world stage wants our participation and for us to foot the bill.

President Trump is negotiating with foreign countries for better trade deals. He has accomplished this with Canada and Mexico, but it is not being brought forward in the Democratic-controlled House floor for passage because of partisan politics. The president has negotiated better trade deals with Japan, South Korea, Europe and others. He is also making in-roads with China, the No. 2 economy in the world, who has taken advantage of us for far too long.

All of these things have in some way benefited the residents of Freeborn County. How much more could have been accomplished in the past three years if in Washington they had been working together for us rather than trying to change the outcome of a legitimate election?

Congressman Jim Hagedorn supports President Trump and his policies along with additional reforms, yet to be enacted, that will reduce government, limit spending and build a strong economy. He does this with the support of people from all walks of life and varied backgrounds. Please take the time to educate yourself about issues that are important to you and the stand that each party and their candidates take in aligning and upholding those issues and concerns. I challenge each of you to research different points of view, gather information from multiple sources to make intelligent decisions and once you have, welcome to the Freeborn County Republican Party.

Our president has said, “Here in the United States, we are alarmed by the new calls to adopt socialism in our country. America was founded on liberty and independence and not government coercion, domination and control. We are born free, and we will stay free.”

I have just been able to touch on a few of the positive things happening in this country and our county under President Trump’s leadership, there are so many more. Let’s also hope to hear more about these positive accomplishments from our local news outlets going into 2020 and the upcoming years when President Trump and Representative Hagedorn are elected for a second term.
