The Bulldogs wrestlers opened the second half of the season when they traveled to Forest City on Thursday night.

Lake Mills took on three Top of Iowa Conference opponents, securing two blowout wins and one close win.

The night began with the squad making quick work of West Fork, 78-6. Lake Mills racked up six pins in the meet.

In the middle dual, the Bulldogs crushed North Butler-Clarksville, 61-13.

“The team was aggressive in the first two duals of the night,” said coach Alex Brandenburg. “We picked a lot of bonus points, and the kids showed some nice technique.”

Forest City was the final opponent of the meet, and the Bulldogs were able to win a wild dual, 39-30. The dual got off to a terrible start for the team, as it fell behind 21-0 after four bouts.

“We had two early matches where we were ahead,” Brandenburg said. “In one match we got caught and pinned and the other we had to injury default.”

Fortunately, the Lake Mills middle weights caught fire and won the next five to get the lead, 24-21. After splitting a couple close matches, Lake Mills getting a forfeit and trading pins, the Bulldogs came out on top, 39-30.

“I am proud how our kids responded to a bad start,” Brandenburg said. “The middle and upper weights, along with Kinser battled back to secure the win.”

With the trio of wins, the No. 6-ranked Bulldogs improved to 14-3 on the season.
