Sarah Leland, 1925-2020

Sarah Charlotta “Sally” Leland, 94, died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2020, at Parkview Care Center in Wells. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bricelyn Lutheran Church with the Rev. Bob Stover officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church Saturday. Burial will be in Bricelyn Lutheran Cemetery in Seely Township, Faribault County. Sarah Leland

Sally was born Aug. 12, 1925, the daughter of Charles and Zephra (Grubb) Sproul in Chester, Iowa. She graduated from McIntire High School in 1942.

Sally married Carmen Start in 1948 and the couple later divorced.

She moved in Bricelyn in 1957 and operated Sally’s Café from 1957 to 1981.

Sally married Everett Leland on Sept. 7, 1962, at Bricelyn Lutheran Church.

Sally is survived by her children Michael Leland of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, and Susan (husband, John) Vee of Wells; five grandchildren, Jennifer (Chad) Chirpich and Jessica Leland, all of Mankato, Andrea (Eric) Treptow of LaVergne, Tenessee, Sara (Rich) Meekhof of Tea, South Dakota, and Alissa (Aric) Bauman of Chatfield; nine great-grandchildren, Jacob Chirpich, Kelsey and Emily Leland, John, Matthew and Cooper Treptow, Sydnee and Roman Meekhof, and Baron Bauman; along with many nieces and nephews and their families.

Sally was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Everett, (November 2019); and siblings Mildred Eastman, Verda Errington, Maxine Klassen, Letha Spencer and Vincent Grubb.
