Star class: Sibley first graders

: In a recent lesson with media specialist Kristen Seeger, Sibley Elementary School first graders used various Makerspace tools to build a structure. Once they decided what they wanted to build (a castle, bridge, house or birdhouse) they needed to determine what materials they were going to use and draw out their designs on paper. Then it was time to build. As in any real-life construction project, there were things that worked well and things that did not work well. - Provided

First graders needed to practice being critical thinkers and problem solvers to make their designs work and their finished products successful, according to a press release. Later, as they reflected on the whole process, students wrote out the steps they took, what worked well and what they would change to make their design better. – Provided
