With just three games remaining in the regular season, the Albert Lea boys’ hockey team traveled to Northfield on Tuesday night trying to raise its standing in Section 1A.

Despite an early 1-0 lead, the Tigers could not hold back the Raiders in the second period, eventually falling 5-2.

The Tigers scored the first goal of the game midway through the first period. Senior Cully Larson recorded the goal and senior Carson Stadheim and junior Blake Ulve were in on the assist.

The first period came to an end with the score at 1-0. Northfield recorded nine shots on goal, but none hit the mark. Albert Lea had six.

The Raiders came out on a tear in the second period, scoring three goals in the first seven minutes of play. The Tigers narrowed the lead with a power-play goal in the 12th minute from Larson. Ulve and junior Logan Barr were there with the assist.

Northfield added another goal before the end of the second period to make it 4-2 before the final break.

Down by two goals, the Tigers were not out of it just yet. However, a Raiders goal in the ninth minute of the period all but ended the game for the Tigers.

Albert Lea outshot Northfield 27-24, but it was not enough to come away with a victory.

The Tigers fall to 9-13-1 on the season and will be back on the ice Thursday night against the Spartans of Rochester Mayo in their final home game of the regular season.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the Tigers were the No. 7 seed in the section standings.
