Letter: Arts Initiative gallery space features upgrades

We are so proud to reopen the Arts Initiative gallery and showcase the hard work and effort of our volunteers and patrons. The highlight of the renovation is our new herringbone floor that pays homage to the Louvre and other grand museums and galleries across the world, and creates another historical reference to the building’s rich history as the Beatrice Bessesen Theatre. The patterning of the flooring creates a warm and welcoming flow that guides visitors into the space and offers the illusion that the gallery is much larger than before.

The renovation also features a custom picture-hanging system with steel reinforcements that allows us to more efficiently hang artwork for exhibition, as well as display larger and more varied artwork. The new picture-hanging system is accented by 21st century green technology: trim made out of recycled materials cut to a 100-year-old classic profile. This will be a great asset to our upcoming 2020 exhibition schedule, which will feature provocative and fresh programming to the area — something the Freeborn County Arts Initiative excels at.
