Man injured when semis collide

An Iowa man was injured Monday morning in a crash between two tractor-trailers near Thompson in Winnebago County.

Garrett Anderson, 37, of Leland, Iowa, was taken by Forest City Ambulance to MercyOne North Iowa in Mason City, according to the Iowa State Patrol.

The report stated Cory Powers, 46, of Emmons was driving a 2017 International eastbound on Highway 9 and preparing to make a lefthand turn onto 130th Avenue, when his semi was struck in the back by a 2005 Freightliner, driven by Anderson, that was eastbound behind Powers.

Anderson was not wearing his seat belt, according to the report.

The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, Thompson Fire Department, Forest City Ambulance and the Iowa Department of Transportation.

Police cited Rylee Paige Bjorklund for underage drinking at 3:11 p.m. Tuesday at 133 W. William St.

 

Car damaged by fire

Albert Lea firefighters were dispatched at 5:11 a.m. Wednesday for a general fire alarm at Riverland Community College, 2200 Riverland Drive.

According to a press release, maintenance personnel arrived and gave proper code to cancel, and Albert Lea firefighters continued to respond for verification of the alarm.

Firefighters searched the building and found heavy smoke and could see fire coming from the automotive training shop. One sprinkler head had activated and helped keep the fire contained to a car.

The release stated firefighters extinguished the fire and ventilated the building.

One firefighter was injured and transported to Mayo Clinic Health System Albert Lea for possible battery fume burns.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Damage was estimated at $6,000.

 

Car damage reported

A large scratch was reported on a vehicle at 2:19 p.m. Tuesday at 2708 Bridge Ave.
