COVID-19 cases continue rising across the state; area cases remain steady

Confirmed COVID-19 cases around the state grew to 3,446, an increase in 261 cases, according to the Minnesota Department of Health on Saturday.

Freeborn County and other neighboring counties did not see an increase in cases. Freeborn County has 33 cases; Mower, 28; Faribault, four; Steele, 11; and Waseca, three.

The Freeborn County Public Health Department said Friday that out of the county’s 33 cases, 21 were out of isolation. It has been six days without any new cases.

Of that total cases statewide, 1,654 no longer need to be in isolation, and 288 are hospitalized, including 109 in intensive care.

According to the department, the highest number of cases has been reported in Hennepin County with 1,287 cases, followed by Nobles County, with 325 cases.

Ramsey and Olmsted counties have 261 and 238 cases, respectively.

Of the 221 deaths statewide, 155 have taken place in Hennepin County.

The Minnesota Department of Health said 35% of cases have been 20 to 44 years of age, with the next highest percentage for the age group of 45 to 64 years old.

People who have had COVID-19 have ranged in age from 4 weeks to 109 years. The median age is 52, with the median hospitalized age at 64, though the hospitalized cases have ranged in age from 4 weeks to 102 years.

The state department indicated 56,597 tests have been completed, including 11,250 through the department’s public health lab and 45,347 through external laboratories.
