Fire damages kitchen

The kitchen in an Albert Lea home was damaged by fire Friday morning.

Firefighters were dispatched at 7:38 a.m. Friday to 1202 James Ave. for a reported structure fire, according to the Albert Lea Fire Department.

When firefighters arrived, the tenants on the first floor of the home were evacuated with no injuries, and fire crews proceeded to the second floor and found the kitchen area on fire.

Crews extinguished the fire quickly and were on the scene for an additional hour looking for hotspots in the attic.

The cause of the fire was found to be items coming into contact with an operating oven. The resident was reportedly using the stove to heat the space and had the oven door open.

Damage was estimated at $2,000.

 

Woman injured in crash

A Lake Mills woman was injured Thursday in a crash in Worth County.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, Mackenzie Raelynn Stansberry, 23, was taken by Northwood ambulance crews to MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City.

The State Patrol indicated Stansberry was traveling east on 410th Street in a 2008 Ford Fusion at 9:10 a.m., when she crossed the westbound lane, entered the ditch and struck a utility pole near the road’s intersection with Worth County Road A38. The vehicle came to rest on its wheels in the ditch facing north.

Stansberry was wearing her seat belt, according to the report.

 

Man arrested after violation

Police arrested Adam Alan Penhollow, 43, after receiving a report of an order for protection violation at 8:29 p.m Thursday in Albert Lea.

 

Vehicles broken into

Police received a report at 10:43 p.m. Friday that someone was trying to break into a vehicle at 718 Cedar Ave.

A handheld GPS unit was reported stolen out of a car at 2:27 p.m. Saturday at 131 W. College St.

Police received a report at 8:45 a.m. Sunday of a vehicle that was rummaged through at 338 James Ave.

A vehicle was reported broken into at 2:52 p.m. Sunday at 722 Pillsbury Ave. Items were missing.

 

Windows reported shot at

A hole was reported in a window at 7:02 a.m. Saturday at 711 W. Front St.

Police received a report at 10:59 a.m. Saturday of a  window at 302 S. Broadway that was reported shot at with a BB gun.

A window was reported shot out with a marble at 5:40 p.m. Sunday at 715 Marshall St. The incident reportedly happened sometime between Saturday night and Sunday morning.

 

Hit-and-run crashes reported

A hit-and-run crash was reported at 5:31 p.m. Saturday at 621 Grace St.

Police received a report at 9:44 a.m. Sunday of several mailboxes that were hit near the intersection of Esquire Avenue and 19th Street.

 

2 arrested for DWI

Police arrested Billi Joe Doyle, 49, for second-degree driving while intoxicated after a reported hit-and-run crash at 12:09 p.m. Friday at 1305 Garfield Ave.

Police arrested Alex Jon Scott for driving while intoxicated after a traffic stop at 7:41 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of Bridge Avenue and Richway Drive.

 

Theft reported

Batteries were reported stolen out of farm equipment at 2:33 p.m. Friday at 10751 880th Ave., Glenville.

 

1 arrested for assault

Deputies arrested Pedro Andres Olvera, 45, for fifth-degree assault and misdemeanor domestic assault at 12:10 a.m. Saturday in Hayward.

 

1 cited for underage drinking

Deputies cited Jaxon Edward Janning, 19, for underage consumption after a traffic stop at 12:11 a.m. Sunday near the intersection of Freeborn County Road 46 and 880th Ave.
