The Minnesota Music Educators Association has chosen students for this coming year’s all-state music ensembles, according to a press release. Three members of the Albert Lea High School concert choir were chosen for the all-state choirs.
Nyahoth Dup will sing alto one and Emma Barclay will sing soprano one in the soprano/alto all-state choir and Caleb Banks will sing bass two in the tenor/bass all-state choir. In addition, Maray Lopez was chosen as an alternate in the alto two section.
Over 1,000 students across the state auditioned in March for the ensembles and 60 of each voice part were chosen for the choirs.
Traditionally the choirs would meet in August for a week-long camp to prepare their music with a renowned conductor and then meet again in February for a brush-up rehearsal and performance at Orchestra Hall. This year, due to COVID-19 concerns, the summer camp has been canceled. Plans are underway to meet in February 2021 with a possible extended rehearsal period to perform next winter.
