Mary Turner Whitcomb passed away on June 18, 2020 due to complications from Covid-19.
Born February 24, 1941, she was the beloved daughter of Benjamin Beckett Whitcomb and Clara Turner Whitcomb. She grew up in Albert Lea, Minnesota and went on to spend her life in the Twin Cities area. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota while raising her two children. Subsequently, she went on to earn a Masters in Social Work after which she worked in the Adult Day Care Program at the Minneapolis V. A. Hospital. Mary frequently served her communities as a volunteer, most recently serving 15 years in the Airport Travelers’ Assistance program. Throughout her life, Mary was an avid reader, gardener and birder. The cats and dogs in her life were a great source of joy. An excellent cook, she was always looking for new recipes. She enjoyed music, particularly early rock ‘n roll, dixieland jazz and Tony Bennett.
She is survived and will be dearly missed by daughter Sarah Suskovic and husband Greg Suskovic of Mankato, MN, son Mike Ponto and husband Doug Foulk of Mpls., MN; grandson Alex Kovic and partner Tristen Marsh of Mpls., MN; granddaughter Elizabeth Suskovic and husband Jonathan Hatch and great granddaughter Colette Hatch, all of St. Paul, MN.
A private family memorial service will take place at a later date. Arrangements are being made by Crescent Tide Cremation Services. In lieu of flowers, memorials suggested to Doctors Without Borders or The Nature Conservancy.
