1. Drive-in movie

Albert Lea Parks and Recreation will host a drive-in movie showing of “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” at 9:30 p.m. Friday at Albert Lea City Arena. Those wishing to attend must pre-register at www.cityofalbertlea.org as space is limited to 40 vehicles. The cost is $5 per vehicle, and gates open at 8:45 p.m.

 

2. July Jubilee

Lake Mills’ July Jubilee celebration returns this weekend, with some changes in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A sesquicentennial July Jubilee merchandise sidewalk sale will start at noon Thursday and Friday and 11 a.m. Saturday.

The Little Mr. and Mrs. July Jubilee contest will take place digitally at 6:30 p.m. Friday. Registrants can contact the Lake Mills Chamber Development Corporation at 641-592-5253 to enter, and are asked to check in at 6:15 p.m. Friday under the awning of Lake Mills Care Center. Their interviews will be livestreamed on Facebook, and participants are asked to bring lawn chairs, as there is a drive-by parade planned.

A free virtual 5k will run Friday through Sunday. Registration to run or walk through Lake Mills is free, can be done at forms.gle/Ecs8e8do1dqW3WJ9A and will enter participants into a $100 Lake Mills Bucks drawing. People can share photos of themselves completing the 5k on the event’s Facebook page for additional entries. A Curb Appeal contest will start Friday and last the weekend, and those looking to participate can register at forms.gle/ax8NZDAcXPj2ABMb8. A chalk art contest will also span all three days, with participants asked to submit photos of their chalk creations around Lake Mills to the event’s Facebook page.

A men’s slow pitch softball tournament will start at 6:30 p.m. Friday and continue starting at 9 a.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday at Leonard Fjelstad Sport Complex, with proceeds to benefit the Lake Mills Parks and Rec Department.

There will be a drive-up picnic lunch at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Oakwood Park to support the Lake Mills eighth-grade school trip to Washington, D.C., each spring. From 8 a.m. to noon Sunday at Truman Helgeson Civic Center there will be a breakfast to benefit the local American Legion.

 

3. Street bingo

Games of street bingo can be played in New Richland on Friday, with all proceeds benefiting the New Richland Commercial Club. Street bingo will start at 6:30 p.m. on Broadway Avenue in New Richland between Division Street and First Street Northwest. Fifteen games plus a bonus game are $15, and popcorn and refreshments will be available for purchase. Those attending bingo will have to social distance. Tables will be provided for families, but those attending are asked to bring their own chairs.

 

4. Live music

Singer and songwriter Josh Sinclair will perform at two local breweries this weekend. He will perform from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Five Alarm Brewing Co., 211 W. Main St. in Lake Mills, and then from from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Worth Brewing Co., 835 Central Ave. in Northwood. There is no cover charge to attend either event. In addition to the beverages and snacks offered for sale at each brewery, the Peppered Cow food truck will be parked in front of Worth Brewing.

 

5. Bayside Ski Team

The Bayside Ski Team will continue its regular waterski shows at 6:30 p.m. Thursday along Edgewater Bay. The show is free to attend, and food trucks are now permitted to set up for the shows. Show attendance will be capped at 250 people in accordance with local, state and national guidelines.
