Bulldogs come out on top in quad

The fourth-ranked Bulldogs controlled three Top of Iowa Conference foes in a home quad on Thursday.
The night began with the team taking on St. Ansgar and winning 11 of 13 matchups. Lake Mills racked up a season high nine pins and a close decision over a returning state qualifier to outdo the Saints, 63-9.
“The wrestlers came out ready to wrestle in the first meet against St. Ansgar,” coach Alex Brandenburg said. “Our schedule has been pretty tough so far, and you can see it is already paying dividends.”
The next dual was almost identical with Lake Mills picking up nine pins again and taking 11 of 13 bouts to cruise past North Union, 63-12.
The night was capped with a win over Central Springs, 50-21.
“Our kids wrestled outstanding the whole night in front of a large home crowd,” Brandenburg said. “They are really working hard this year as individuals to improve technique the coaches are saying to improve upon.”
With the dual wins, Lake Mills improves to 6-1 on the young season. Over half the lineup finished with 3-0 records: Lucas Oldenkamp, Hayden Helgeson, Landon Price, Steve Brandenburg, Austin Stene, Garrett Ham, Ethan Lawson and Wyatt Hanna.
