Coming off a 5-1 loss on Saturday against #6AA Northfield on Saturday night, the Albert Lea girls’ hockey team faced another powerhouse on Tuesday evening when they traveled to Rosemount to take on the defending Section 3AA champion Rosemount Irish and came away with a big 3-2 victory.
The Tigers jumped out to a 1-0 lead on the only goal of a fast-paced first period.  Morgan Goskeson scored on a shot from a tight angle on an assist from Hanna Austinson at the 12:25 mark of the period.
The second period belonged to Albert Lea senior goaltender Rachel Doppelhammer, who counted several incredible saves among her 17 stops in the period.  The lone blemish was a Rosemount power play goal scored with 2:41 remaining in the period to make it a 1-1 game.
The third period was a back-and-forth affair with Albert Lea striking first at 9:37 on a goal by Haley Austinson, with assists going to her sister Hanna and Goskeson.  Rosemount tied the game up just three minutes later and looked to have the advantage when the Tigers took a penalty with 1:23 to play in the 3rd.  However, Goskeson stole the puck from a Rosemount defender and scored on a breakaway with :55 remaining in the game to seal the victory for the Tigers, who move to 10-3 on the season.
Dopplehammer finished with 36 saves in the victory.  Albert Lea is on the road to play Winona on Thursday evening.
