  • Natasha Moyer scored two goals to lead the Albert Lea girls’ hockey team to a 4-2 win over Rochester John Marshall.
  • The third-ranked Albert Lea Tigers wrestling team traveled to Austin and defeated the Packers 59-8. Picking up falls for the Tigers were Trey Hable, Cory Hansen, Dalton Westerlund, Cody Hansen, Carter Kortan, Connor Kortan and Matt Tiegs.
  • The Albert Lea boys’ hockey team hosted Virginia-Mt. Iron-Buhl and were defeated 3-1. Tyler Prihoda scored the only goal for the Tigers with assists to Grant Stadheim and Taylor Draayer.

  • Loren Kaiser rolled his ninth career sanctioned 300 game while bowling in the Tuesday Mixed League at the Holiday Lanes.
  • Laura Hillman, Karissa Lau and Amy Leach each scored two goals as the Albert Lea girls’ hockey team defeated Mankato East 6-1.
  • The Glenville-Emmons girls’ basketball team traveled to Mabel-Canton and were defeated 51-26. Sam Stadheim had nine points with Megan Bjorklund adding eight in the loss.
  • The Albert Lea boys’ swimming and diving team took fourth at the Austin Invitational. Ben Schreiber took the only first place for the Tigers, winning the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:04.86.
  • The Albert Lea B-Bantam hockey team defeated New Prague 5-2. Travis Oyer scored two goals with Chris Dokken, Gradon Schultz and Phil Runden each adding one.

  • The Minnesota Twins picked up 13 free agents in the Major League Baseball draft, including shortstop Wayne Caughey of Brainerd.
  • The Minnesota North Stars were defeated 6-1 by the Montreal Canadians in a game played at the Montreal Forum. Bill Goldsworthy scored the only goal for the North Stars. Bob Gainey, who later went on to coach the North Stars scored twice for the Canadians.
  • Maurie Monson scored 19 points to lead Alden to a 68-43 win over Bricelyn in Border League play.
  • The Albert Lea boys’ basketball team hosted Owatonna at the Southwest gym and defeated Owatonna 36-9. Gary Serrano, Reid Katzung, Larry Miller and Lenny Hultgren had pins for the Tigers.
  • Pierce Trucking picked up a 111-99 win over Hinckley Chevrolet in the Albert Lea YMCA men’s basketball league. Harold Pierce and Rick Fisher each scored 23 with Neil Pierce adding 22 in the win.
  • Gay Iverson scored 22 points to lead Emmons to a 62-53 win over Frost in Border League play. John Yost added 13 points for the Eagles.
  • Dan Rayman scored 25 points to lead the Falcons over the Bombers 76-53 in Glenville men’s basketball league play. Wayne Wacholz had 16 points to lead the Bombers.

Alumni update

Woody Dahl, a 2009 graduate of Albert Lea High School who played two years of varsity basketball in Albert Lea under coach Chad Feikema, is in his eighth year as an assistant athletic trainer at South Dakota State University, where he works with the men’s basketball and men’s and women’s golf teams.
