On Monday, the Albert Lea High School Band Department will present a concert in honor of Music In Our Schools Month. The performance will be at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium and will feature Tiger Band, Symphonic Band and Concert Band. There is no fee for admission, but donations are encouraged to offset expenses of the event.

The Tiger Band, which is made up of mostly eighth- and ninth-grade students, will perform three works including “Darklands March” by Randall Standridge. The Symphonic Band will perform one piece on their own, a three-movement work titled “Nathan Hale Trilogy,” arranged by James Curnow.

The Concert Band, made up of mostly juniors and seniors, will perform “Brighton Beach,” a march by William P. Latham, and “Venture” by Sean O’Laughlin.

The Symphonic and Concert Bands will combine for the last three pieces of the concert, which will be performed on their tour to Chicago in March. The combined selections include “Knights of Destiny” by Michael Sweeney, “Nettleton” arranged by Johnnie Vinson and “Aztec Fire” by Jay Bocook.

The bands are under the direction of Suzanne Mauer. Their final concert of the year will be April 29, and Concert Band will perform at the Big Nine Music Festival in Faribault on May 3.
