In the heart of winter, the students at Hawthorne Elementary School have been delving into an exhilarating Arctic adventure right in their very own gymnasium. Over the past two weeks, under the guidance of their dedicated Physical Education teacher, Jeff Groth, the students have been immersed in the captivating world of the Arctic Winter Games.

The Arctic Winter Games is an event that is a celebration of culture, sportsmanship and the unique spirit of the northern and arctic regions.

Groth has been instrumental in introducing the students to the rich history and significance behind each event, fostering an understanding of the cultural heritage embedded within the games. Each event serves as a window into the vibrant tapestry of northern cultures.

Reflecting on the students’ enthusiastic participation, Groth remarked, “It has been fun to watch how excited the students are when they come into the gym and see the different events set up. When we started this unit, a lot of our students didn’t know what the Arctic Winter Games were. Getting the chance to expose them to the games is very exciting.”

Indeed, the Arctic Winter Games offer more than just physical activities; they provide a platform for cultural exchange and understanding. Through friendly competition and shared experiences, young athletes not only hone their skills but also forge lasting connections with peers from diverse backgrounds.

As the Arctic Winter Games continue to captivate the hearts and minds of students at Hawthorne Elementary, the spirit of unity and respect for cultural diversity shines brightly within the school walls. This immersive journey into the Arctic Winter Games serves as a testament to the power of sports in bringing communities together and fostering a deeper appreciation for our global heritage.

With each jump, throw and sprint, Hawthorne Elementary students are not just participating in a unit; they are embarking on an extraordinary adventure that transcends borders and celebrates the beauty of our shared humanity.
