Did you read the Albert Lea Tribune article about the Freeborn County Child Care Forgivable loan program? It even got a thumbs up on the editorial page! The name is a little misleading as the Freeborn County Board turned down the opportunity to help fund this program. The state and national organizations’ newsletters both list housing and day care as the two areas needing the most attention at the county level. The county was asked tor $10,000 to help fund this program, but most of our board members felt a program like this would not be a good use of taxpayer money. I want to thank the Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation and the Albert Lea Economic Development Agency for recognizing and funding this program. It enhances the quality and availability of day care in the county and also helps to enhance the economic health of Freeborn County.
