Albert Lea to celebrate third annual Cinco de Mayo celebration on Friday

A community celebration of Cinco de Mayo will take place from noon to 8 p.m. Friday in the heart of Albert Lea at the North Broadway parking lot, adjacent to the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center. The event is expected to offer food, activities and music.

Schedule of activities:

Noon to 8 p.m.: Savor an array of delicious food, sweets and refreshing drinks. Enjoy the tastes of authentic Mexican cuisine with a wide selection of tacos, tamales and more, accompanied by a variety of beverages.

4 to 6 p.m.: Explore the craft market featuring local artisans. Engage the children with fun activities and a round of Mexican bingo, a unique twist on a classic game.

5 to 8 p.m.: Get moving to the beats of live music performed by Los Rebeldes and DJ Charly. Experience the joy of dance and music, integral parts of this cultural celebration.

Cinco de Mayo commemorates the historic victory of Mexico over the French empire at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. This day is celebrated annually to honor Mexican culture and heritage, showcasing traditional music, dance and cuisine.

The event is made possible through the Albert Lea Convention and Visitors Bureau and Albert Lea Recreation Department, along with support from Albert Lea Select Foods and Cargill.
