The Albert Lea Freeborn County Chamber of Commerce will have a special edition of its Business After Hours event next week dedicated to promoting community well-being and vitality.

Business After Hours, a staple in the local business community, traditionally takes place on the third Tuesday of every month from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Wedgewood Cove in Albert Lea. However, next week’s event promises to be exceptional as it will be sponsored by the National Vitality Center, focusing on the community’s Blue Zones initiative.

The Blue Zones concept emphasizes creating environments where people can live longer, healthier and happier lives. Albert Lea, being a designated Blue Zones Community, is committed to fostering a culture of well-being, and the Chamber of Commerce is proud to support this initiative, a press release stated.

The special Blue Zones Business After Hours will be open to the entire community, providing an opportunity for everyone to learn more about the chamber’s mission, as well as the principles and practices of being a Blue Zones Community.

“The Blue Zones Leadership Team looks forward to sharing updates with the community on healthy initiatives in Albert Lea; from adding sidewalks to greater outreach, Albert Lea is still striving to make the healthy choices the easy choices,” said Cathy Malkowsky, community outreach and engagement coordinator with the city of Albert Lea, who leads the local Blue Zones effort.

Attendees can expect an engaging evening filled with networking opportunities, informative discussions and insights into how they can contribute to the health and vitality of Albert Lea and Freeborn County. There will be snacks, beverages and prizes.

“We are thrilled to partner with the National Vitality Center for this special event,” said Shari Sprague, executive director of the chamber. “It’s an excellent opportunity for our community to come together, learn about the chamber’s work, and explore how we can all play a part in creating a healthier, happier Albert Lea and Freeborn County.”

The Blue Zones Business After Hours will take place from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Wedgewood Cove. Admission is free, and all members of the community are encouraged to attend.
